Can I be sure selected vehicle is available?

If the vehicle you selected during the reservation is unavailable during pick-up, we will supply you with a similar model. 

How can I return the rental?

Dropping off your rental is easy. Our office is located in Flugvellir 6,230 Keflavik. During the peak season, in the summer (1st of June- 30th of September) our office is open 24/7.

During the low season, in the winter (1st of October-31st of May) our office is open from 4:00-22:00.

We offer after-hours drop-off as long as clients meet the following criteria:

Have Platinum insurance.

Returned the fuel full of fuel.

Returned at the agreed time when checking the drop off at the counter during pick up.

Can I use a debit card and do I have to leave a deposit?

Customers can rent a car with a debit card through our online booking system. However, if paying with a debit card, a deposit will be charged upon arrival. This deposit is fully refundable, provided the car is returned in the same condition as when it was rented.

The deposit amount depends on the chosen insurance package:

  • Silver Insurance: 150,000 ISK deposit
  • Gold Insurance: 65,000 ISK deposit
  • Platinum Insurance: No deposit required (0 ISK)

If you have a valid credit card, no deposit will be charged upon arrival.

Do I need a 4×4 car?

It depends on where you plan on traveling. If you are going to drive on F-roads (highland roads) you need a 4×4. In the winter months (Nov-April) it is recommended to rent a 4×4 for driving around the country because of icy road conditions. In the summer you don’t need a 4×4 to drive the ring road.

Do all vehicles have studded tires during the winter?

Yes, all of our rental cars have studded or spiked winter tires from the 1st of November through the 15th of April.

Do you offer roadside assistance?

Yes, we offer 24/7 emergency roadside assistance by contacting us at 00-354-787-4444. Lotus Car Rental has service affiliates all around the country if maintenance is required for your rental.

How can I pay for my rental?

We accept most major credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Diners Club. However, if you choose to use a debit card a deposit will be collected and then refunded if the car is returned in the same condition as it was rented.

No deposit is required for bookings with Platinum insurance. At no additional costs or fees.

They must be under the name of the driver or the renter.

They must contain 16 digits, a CVC, and an expiration date.

How do I reach roadside assistance?

You can reach our roadside assistance service by calling +354-787-4444 and selecting option 3. Please send us your coordinates via email so we can assist you in finding a nearby mechanic or towing service. 

In case of a life-threatening emergency please call 112.

What is the age requirement to rent a car?

Age requirements depend on several factors:

  • Small & Medium Vehicles, Dacia Duster, RAV4 Roof-Tent Models: Minimum age is 20 years.
  • Large & Luxury Vehicles, 9-Seater Vans, California Models, Hilux Campers: Minimum age is 23 years.
  • Young Driver Fee: If you do not meet the minimum age but have a valid driver’s license, you may rent a vehicle by paying a Young Driver Fee.
How can I pick up my car after arriving at the airport?

After your plane arrives, our representative will be waiting for you with a sign in the departure hall at the airport.

Please walk towards the meeting point after clearing baggage claim and customs. Once you meet our representative, they will shuttle you to our office, where you will pick up your rental. If you don't see our representative at the meeting point, please call our office and select option 1 for a pick-up at the airport in the prompt.

I have a foreign driver´s license, can I use your service?

Yes, you can. We accept all foreign licenses as long as it´s in English or written in Latin characters. If it does not follow this format make sure to bring an international driver's license. A picture is not acceptable.

I want to drop off my car at the airport, how do I return it?

Please return the car to our Keflavik Airport office. Our Airport office is located at Flugvellir 6, 230 Keflavik. Our shuttle will then take you to the airport.

If I bring the car back early can I have a refund?

No. Unfortunately no refunds can be given for unused or partly used car hire vouchers.

If I want to take a Highland road, does it matter what kind of car I am renting?

Yes. You can only drive the Highland roads on a 4×4 (4wd) car.

Is it possible to return the car outside of opening hours?

Yes our drop off service is open 24/7.

Is there a minimum rental period?

Minimum rental period is 24 hours.

What are F-roads?

F-roads are Highland roads, marked on most maps e.g. F-35 (Kjolur) or F-26 (Sprengisandur).

What is included in the rental price?

All rental price includes: 

  • CDW, SCDW, and TPL insurance 
  • Unlimited mileage
  • Cheaper fuel and discounts at N1 gas stations
  • 24% VAT tax
  • Free cancellation for cancellations made more than 24 hours before the start of the rental
  • No hidden fees upon arrival
When is your office open?

Our Keflavik Office is open from 4 am -  2 am from 1st Oct - 31 May and 24/7 from 1st of June - 30 of Sept.

Which documents are necessary to rent a car?

To rent a car with us, please ensure you have the following documents for both the main driver and any additional drivers:

  • The driver´s valid passport (same applies to additional drivers).
  • The driver´s valid driving license (same applies to additional drivers).
  • A valid credit or debit card with 16 digits, a CVC code, and an expiry date.
What is the fuel policy at return?

Upon returning your rental car, you must return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as when you received it. This means that if your car was provided with a full tank, you must also return it with a full tank.

If your fuel level was not marked as less than full in your contract, but it actually was, please send us a picture along with your booking number in the subject line.

Please note that if the car is returned with less fuel than required, we will apply an administration fee in addition to the cost of the missing fuel.

If you have time upon return, we kindly ask you to refill the fuel at the nearest station to avoid any additional charges.
